Historic 25th Redwood Bluegrass Associates Concert Season To Begin In October

The historic 25th Redwood Bluegrass Associates Concert Season will begin in October and run through April in Mountain View. All RBA programs since 1995 have been welcomed by the Northern California Bluegrass Society.

Three Bluegrass Film Festivals Set For North Carolina, Arizona & California

Three bluegrass film festivals are set to take place in North Carolina, Arizona, and California. The two new festivals are based on the Northern California Bluegrass Society festival that is held as part of the FREE Bluegrass On Broadway Festival in Redwood City each January.

OCTOBER

September 30-October 1 — 3rd Annual IBMA Bluegrass Film Festival, International Bluegrass Music Association World Of Bluegrass, Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, NC. The festival is free and open to the public.

10 — 3rd Annual Arizona Bluegrass Film Festival & Bluegrass Band Showdown, Cattle Track Theater, Scottsdale, AZ.

JANUARY 2017

29 — 10th Annual NCBS Bluegrass Film Festival, Redwood City Main Library, Redwood City. Film submissions for the 2017 NCBS Bluegrass Film Festival are due on October 22, 2016.

Summit House To Feature Still Searchin’ On September 29 In Thursday Bluegrass Series

The bluegrass band Still Searchin’ will perform on Thursday, September 29 as part of the Northern California Bluegrass Society-welcomed Thursday Bluegrass Series presented by the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill.

The FREE show will run 6:00-8:30pm high in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Highway 17. There are great views in every direction.

The Summit House, home of good food and drink, is 6 miles south of Los Gatos at 23123 Santa Cruz Highway.

Robert Cornelius organizes this ongoing weekly music series that brings great music to the top of the world.

NCBS And CBA Represented At International Bluegrass Music Association World Of Bluegrass This Week In Raleigh NC

NCBS President Michael Hall, the IBMA Bluegrass Film Festival Committee Chair.

California will be well-represented at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World Of Bluegrass this week in Raleigh, NC. Both the California Bluegrass Association and the Northern California Bluegrass Society — and their members — will contribute to the convention and bluegrass festival that will run September 27-October 1. The two Northern California clubs are longtime organizational members of the IBMA.

The Molly Tuttle Band will perform at the IBMA convention.

The CBA is an official sponsor of the gathering and will offer its famed California Hospitality Suite that presents top bands in an intimate showcase setting.

The NCBS Bluegrass Film Festival in Redwood City is the model for the IBMA Bluegrass Film Festival that will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Many California bluegrass musicians and organizers will perform, emcee, lecture, mentor, and network throughout the week. See you where the music is!

Two Week Reminder: Nominations for the 2017 Northern California Bluegrass Awards are due on Saturday, October 8, 2016.

Categories: Band, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, & Bass. The awards honor primarily non-touring Northern California bluegrass bands and musicians. Each person may nominate up to three in each category.

Hard copy nominations are accepted at the NCBS Booth at events or nominations may be made at any time by E-Mail.

Looking Ahead To The 2016 October Bluegrass & Beyond Festivals

The outdoor bluegrass festival season in Northern California ends next month, but some of the year’s best are in October, including the world’s largest bluegrass festival — Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, many Northern California bluegrass bands and fans will head for Raleigh, NC for the international bluegrass convention and music party — the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World Of Bluegrass.

There are many other great festivals and campouts to enjoy, including a new bluegrass festival at Prusch Farm Park in San Jose with many familiar faces.

Heathen Hill To Perform This Thursday At The Summit House On Highway 17

A Summit House mountain view.

The Santa Cruz-based Heathen Hill band will perform  at the FREE Summit House Thursday Bluegrass Series on September 22.

The weekly series runs every Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill at the top of Highway 17 between Los Gatos & Scott’s Valley. The last Thursday of September will feature Hidden Still.

The series is presented by the Summit House and welcomed by the Northern California Bluegrass Society. Good food and drink are served during the performance. The place offers endless views of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
