Wildcat Mountain Ramblers Set For Valentine’s Day Show At The Summit House

The Wildcat Mountain Ramblers are set to perform a Valentine’s Day Show this Thursday evening, February 14 from 6:00-8:30pm.Ā The Northern California Bluegrass Society welcomes The Summit House Thursday Bluegrass Series.

The FREE weekly series is presented by the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill at the top of Highway 17, six miles south of Los Gatos. Good food and drink will be served.

NCBS President Michael Hall Named To IBMA Foundation Board Of Directors

Northern California Bluegrass Society President Michael Hall has been named to the IBMA Foundation Board Of Directors, the philanthropic organization affiliated with the International Bluegrass Music Association. The foundation was formerly known as The Foundation For Bluegrass Music.

Hall has been active with various IBMA projects for the the past three decades in addition to his local work for the NCBS.

The other members of the board are:Ā Fred Bartenstein, Fred Bartenstein & Associates;Ā Kissy Black, President, Lotos Nile Consultants;Ā Sam Blumenthal, The Blumenthal Foundation;Ā Richie Brown, Founder, Boston Bluegrass Union, Harvard University;Ā Becky Buller, Becky Buller Band;Ā Peter D’Addario, St. Louis Cardinals;Ā Tom Kopp, Emeritus Professor, Miami University of Ohio;Ā Ruth McLain,Ā  Morehead State University Bluegrass Program, McLain Family Band;Ā Peter Salovey, President, Yale University & Bandleader, The Professors of Bluegrass;Ā Alan Tompkins, President, Bluegrass Heritage Foundation; andĀ Wendy Tyner, Wintergrass Festival.

2019 grants by the Foundation include an award to the California Bluegrass Association for its Japan project at Grass Valley in JuneĀ (“Fostering Closer Ties with Japanese Pickers and Fans”) and to the San Diego Bluegrass Society for its “Summergrass Kids Camp” in August at Vista.

In past years, awards have included a grant to the Northern California Bluegrass Society for its “NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund” and a college scholarship that enabled Palo Alto’s Molly Tuttle to attend the Berkelee College of Music.

The foundation accepts IRC Section 501(c)(3) tax-advantaged donations to support worthy bluegrass projects nationwide.

Northern California Bluegrass Society Will Present The 26th Annual Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival August 8-11

The Northern California Bluegrass Society will present theĀ 26th Annual Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass FestivalĀ onĀ August 8-11, 2019.

The relaxed, friendly gathering of California bluegrass bands is set for the beautifulĀ San Benito County Historical Park inĀ Tres PinosĀ (7 miles south of Hollister).

The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival returns in August 2019 for the 26th time!

 

Blue Summit Set For April 19-21 Brookdale Bluegrass Festival At The San Benito County Historical Park

Blue SummitĀ will perform at the Spring Brookdale Bluegrass Festival at the San Benito County Historical Park inĀ Tres Pinos onĀ April 19-21, 2019.Ā The festival is presented by Brookdale BluegrassĀ and welcomed by the Northern California Bluegrass Society. Tickets are on sale now.

The Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair Is A Rite Of Spring For Bluegrass Fans — Set For Sunday, May 5

The NCBS/SCBSĀ Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair, a Rite Of Spring for bluegrass music fans, is set for Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Duck Pond Stage in San Lorenzo ParkĀ .

The FREE program is held next to the courthouse in downtown Santa Cruz. The long-runningĀ Noon-6:00pm event, presented by the Northern California Bluegrass Society/Santa Cruz Bluegrass Society,Ā will bring great live music and lovely springtime weather. Bands will be announced soon.

NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund Now Accepting Donations For Spring 2019 Student Grants

TheĀ Northern California Bluegrass Society is now collecting donations for scholarships for the April 11-14, 2019 Walker Creek Music CampĀ run by Ingrid Noyes at the Walker Creek Ranch nearĀ Petaluma.

TheĀ NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship FundĀ assists students who need financial help in order to attend. NCBS is a IRC Section 501(c)(3) organization that manages the fund and awards the scholarships.

New Caretakers Named For The San Benito County Historical Park, Home Of The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival

The San Benito County Historical Society has announced that Donna Biggs and her husband Frank Carez have become the new caretakers of the San Benito County Historical Park effective February 1, 2019.

The park is the venue for the Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival. The NCBS looks forward to working with these longtime San Benito County residents as they take over at the park. Longtime caretaker Don Pidd has retired.
