Here is a look at the November 2016 bluegrass and more festivals around Northern California and beyond.

Your friends who are members of theĀ Northern California Bluegrass Society will be first in line for the end-of-season fun.

11-13 – Four Corner States Bluegrass Festival & Fiddle Championships, Everett Bowman Rodeo Grounds, Wickenburg, AZ.

25-27 — Sonora Christmas Festival, Mother Lode Fairgrounds, Sonora.

27 — Brookdale Bluegrass Winter Gathering, Don Quixote’s, Felton. (NCBS-welcomed)

Fall Redwood Bluegrass Associates Concerts To Feature Two Nationally-Touring Bay Area Bands

Mountain View Masonic Hall, 890 Church Street.

The fall concerts for the historic 25th Redwood Bluegrass Associates Concert Season will be held in October and November inĀ Mountain View. All RBA programs since 1995 have been welcomed by theĀ Northern California Bluegrass Society.

The line-up will feature two nationally-touring Bay Area bands:

October 22 — Kathy Kallick Band

November 19 — Front Country

The Saturday evening concerts will be presented at the Mountain View Masonic Hall, 890 Church Street, near downtown. An open jam will begin at Ā 5:00pm and the concert will begin at 7:30pm.

NCBS Volunteer Party Will Be Saturday October 29, 2016

Volunteer Party Time!

Volunteers and bands from all Northern California Bluegrass Society events and other projects over the past year will soon receive their invitations to theĀ 2016 Volunteer Thank You Party.

The fun annual gathering will be held onĀ Saturday, October 29 at an undisclosed location. Thanks for your support!

One Day Reminder: 2017 Northern California Bluegrass Awards Nominations Are Due October 8

One Day Reminder: Nominations for theĀ 10th Annual Northern California Bluegrass Awards are due tomorrow, Saturday, October 8, 2016.

Categories: Band, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, & Bass. The awards honor primarily non-touring Northern California bluegrass bands and musicians. Each person may nominateĀ up to three in each category.

For your convenience, nominations may be made by E-Mail.

NCBS Members will receive two rounds of ballots, then the FREE Northern California Bluegrass Awards Show & Concert will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, as part of the Northern California Bluegrass Society’sĀ Bluegrass On Broadway Festival in Redwood City. The festival is supported by a base grant from the Redwood City Civic Cultural Commission, and by other Redwood City area individuals, businesses, organizations and agencies.

Northern California Bluegrass Society Walker Creek Scholarship Fund Assists Deserving Music Camp Students At This Weekend’s Fall Session

The committee that runs the Northern California Bluegrass Society Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund has awarded two partial scholarships to deserving students for the fall camp, which will be held this weekend, October 6-9, 2016, near Petaluma.

One recipient is a 13-year-old aspiring bass player whose father has been unemployed for much of the past year. The other is a college student who plays banjo & guitar and will earn the balance of her camp tuition by assisting with the camp’s youth program.

Thanks to Ingrid Noyes, who runs the music camp, which is held each spring and fall and is open to both adults and children. Thanks also to the NCBS committee that manages the fund.

And, a Big Thanks to the generous bluegrass scholarship fund donors, whose contributions support bluegrass education in our area!

The Summit House Presents The Goat Hill Girls This Thursday Evening October 6

The Goat Hill Girls return to the summit.

The Summit House Thursday Bluegrass Series will feature local faves The Goat Hill Girls on October 6.

Then, the Summit House will be closed for upgrades on October 11 so there will be NO bluegrass show that night.

The FREE Thursday shows will return later in the month, presented by the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill and welcomed by the Northern California Bluegrass Society.

This bluegrass place on Highway 17 six miles south of Los Gatos has great food and drink and endless views of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. Shows run 6:00-8:30pm.

Highway 17 leads to the Summit House and bluegrass music.

Foundation For Bluegrass Music Awards Prestigious Grant To NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund

The Foundation For Bluegrass Music (Nashville) has awarded one of only four 2016 grants to support children’s bluegrass education to the Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund.

The prestigious nationwide grant was announced at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards Luncheon at the World Of Bluegrass in Raleigh, NC on September 29, 2016.

The NCBS fund accepts donations and awards partial or full scholarships to deserving young students at the Walker Creek Music Camp, which is held each Spring & Fall at the Walker Creek Environmental Education Center & Ranch near Petaluma. A NCBS committee manages the four-year-old fund.

The Walker Creek Music Camp was established in 2013 by Camp DirectorĀ Ingrid Noyes. The residential camp educates both adults and children in instrumental and vocal instruction, with nationally-recognized instructors.

The FBM also awards a college scholarship each year to a student studying bluegrass music. Palo Alto’s Molly Tuttle was one of the past recipients.

Thanks to all the donors, now including the Foundation For Bluegrass Music, as well as all the NCBS volunteers, for making this scholarship fund available to young aspiring bluegrass students in Northern California.
