  1. A wonderful eulogy. Dancing John indeed was a fixture at Strawberry and many other festivals. Overtime one could say he became a legend. I do recall that time he said he was going to try and make every festival he could in that signal year and dance. He may not have gotten into the Guinness Book of Records but in my book he holds that record. You have filled in some parts I didn’t know about John.

He passing reminded me of a 4X8 piece of plywood that was always set aside hoping that Jon Hartford would return to the Strawberry Festival and dance again on that piece of plywood. After John Harford’s passing that piece of plywood would become a part of the temporary flooring in the Hog Ranch Radio tent. It was placed right behind the broadcast table every Strawberry Festival while it was still held at Camp Mather. Written on the plywood was “John Hartford Danced Here”.

I wonder where that piece of plywood is not. Perhaps if is still around it could be set in that space where Dancing John would be and added to the board would be “Dancing John danced here, now dancing with John Hartford”.
