NCBS Board Of Directors Names Dana Frankel As Additional Member For 2018-2019

Dana Frankel

The Northern California Bluegrass Society Board Of Directors has named Dana Frankel as a member for the 2018-2019 year. She temporarily brings the board up to ten members, up from the traditional nine.

Frankel lives in Santa Cruz and is currently a sophomore at UC-Santa Cruz, where she is majoring in Sustainable Agriculture. She is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Belmont.

She grew up in the NCBS, attending and performing on fiddle at numerous Society events, including the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, Bluegrass On Broadway, the Brown Barn Bluegrass Festival and the Foggy Mountain Bluegrass Festival.  She has been a member of her family band, The Dim Lights, led by her parents Avram & Vicki Frankel of Pacifica, and also plays in Mission Blue with her father. She and Helen Foley are the bandleaders of Pacific Drive. As a youth, she performed with the Kids On Stage at the GOF and other area festivals.

She is interested in creating additional opportunities for younger bluegrass fans at NCBS events and helping to grow existing Society activities.

New Wednesday Bluegrass Series At Earthbelly Restaurant Begins On September 19

A new Santa Cruz bluegrass series set for Wednesday nights at Earthbelly Restaurant, will begin on September 19, 2018.

The Wildcat Mountain Ramblers will be the first band, and will be followed by other Monterey Bay-area bluegrass bands.

The Northern California Bluegrass Society welcomes this new bluegrass adventure to our area! Robert Cornelius is the series organizer and the show is presented by Earthbelly.

Earthbelly Restaurant is located at 381 Soquel Avenue (at Ocean Avenue) in Santa Cruz. FREE music runs 6:00-9:00pm each Wednesday.

NCBS To Welcome December 6 Winter Brookdale Bluegrass Festival At Michael’s On Main In Soquel

The December 6, 2018 Winter Brookdale Bluegrass Festival will be welcomed by the Northern California Bluegrass Society. Performers will include Freebo & Alice Howe, The Wildcat Mountain Ramblers, & The Brookdale Bluegrass Band.

The gathering, presented by Brookdale Bluegrass, will take place at Michael’s On Main, 2591 Main St,
Soquel.

Wildcat Mountain Ramblers To Close Redwood City’s Pub In The Park Bluegrass Series This Saturday, September 15

The Wildcat Mountain Ramblers will perform at the final 2018 Pub In The Park Bluegrass Concert this Saturday, September 15, 2018.  The FREE concert ends a summer of bluegrass & beer and will be held at Redwood City’s Red Morton Park. The show runs 11:00am-4:00pm.

Northern California Bluegrass Society welcomes the full 2018 series of bluegrass performances, which are presented by the Redwood City Department Of Parks Recreation & Community Services.

The monthly shows are centered around a bluegrass band and an amazing inflatable English-style pub that serves good beer throughout the afternoon. Food will be available and relaxed picnics with family and friends are encouraged.

This is the inaugural season — we hope the fun concerts will return to Redwood City parks next summer!
