NCBS To Welcome The Americana/Bluegrass Musical Bright Star To Palo Alto In September

The Northern California Bluegrass Society officially welcomes the Steve Martin-Edie Brickell-penned Americana/Bluegrass musical Bright Star to the Lucie Stern Center Theater in Palo Alto.Ā The Society’s own Dan Mazer will perform with the show’s orchestra on banjo.

The Palo Alto Players’ production is also welcomed by the California Bluegrass Association.

Pickers who are interested in pre-show jamming and informal performances in the courtyard outside the theater can sign-upĀ  by contacting the CBA’s San Francisco Vice-President Ted Kuster at <ted@tedtedted.com

Participants will enjoy free admission to the show.

27strings Set For The Summit House Thursday Bluegrass Series On August 29

The band 27strings will perform on August 29 at the Northern California Bluegrass Society-welcomedĀ Thursday Bluegrass Series, which is presented by the Summit House Beer Garden & GrillĀ at the top ofĀ Highway 17,Ā  6 miles south of Los Gatos.

Music runs 6:00-8:30pm. The mountain vistas are unending. Good food and drink is served. Admission is FREE.

The Northern California Bluegrass Society-welcomed Thursday Bluegrass Series continues at the Summit House Beer Garden & Grill at the top of Highway 17,Ā  6 miles south of Los Gatos on the way to Santa Cruz. Music runs 6:00-8:30pm. Good food and drink is served. Admission is FREE.

NCBS Has Announced 2020 Dates For The Bluegrass On Broadway Festival & Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair

TheĀ Northern California Bluegrass Society Bluegrass On Broadway Festival will be held January 24-26, 2020. The FREE festival is supported in part by a grant from the Redwood City Arts Commission. Contact festival director Michael Hall for more information.

The Northern California Bluegrass Society/Santa Cruz Bluegrass Society Santa Cruz Bluegrass Fair will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2020. The FREE event will take place at the Duck Pond Stage in San Lorenzo Park. Contact fair committee chair Dana Frankel for more information.

Nominations For 13th Annual Northern California Bluegrass Awards Due On October 15, 2019

NominationsĀ for theĀ 13th Annual Northern California Bluegrass AwardsĀ are due from NCBS MembersĀ byĀ October 15, 2019.

Nominations honoringĀ Northern California’s primarily non-touring bluegrass bands & musiciansĀ are being accepted in 9 categories:Ā Band, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, andĀ Bass. Paper nomination forms will be available at theĀ NCBS Information BoothĀ at fall events and e-mail nominations can be sent toĀ Michael Hall. Each member may nominate up to 3 in each category.

NCBS members will receive two rounds of ballots over the winter. The awards ceremony will be held onĀ January 25, 2020Ā as part of the FREEĀ NCBS Bluegrass On Broadway FestivalĀ inĀ Redwood City.

The awards show andĀ January 24-26Ā festival are supported by a base grant from theĀ Redwood City Arts CommissionĀ and by other Redwood City-area businesses, agencies, and organizations.
