2018 Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival Band Application Is Due On December 31, 2017

Deadline for Band Applications for the 2017 GOF is “December 31st, 2017″

It’s that time again!  Any band interested in performing at the 2018 Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival  (the Bands will perform August 10th 11th,12th ) needs to submit the following materials and information by December 31st, 2017 to:

Band Recording: Ideally the recording (CD or cassette) please no DVD’s, should have at least five songs and represent the current membership and performance style of the band.  It doesn’t have to be quality- just clear enough for the band committee to make a good and fair evaluation.

Band Photo: Prior to the festival we feature photos of performing bands both in this magazine and in promotional materials. Please submit a photo of your current band that you’d like to see in publication (and indicate who is who on the back of the photo).  Avoid dark photos that don’t scan very well.  Photo size is not that important.

Band Description:  Pretend you’re a reporter for this magazine who is doing an article on your Band , and write a few paragraphs describing  your group.    Some important information you might provide in your description includes:

.  Names of band members and instruments they play, vocals (leads or harmonies.)

.  Style of music you play (traditional bluegrass, old timey, contemporary, originals, etc.)

.  Brief biographical “story” of each member

.  History of your band

.  How you came up with your band name

.  Recordings you’ve done (don’t worry, most bands at GOF haven’t recorded yet)

.  Interesting places at which you’ve performed

.  Regular gigs you’d like readers to know about

Both the GOF committee and this magazine will use these materials to help promote the festival and your band.  We aren’t expecting fancy layouts or custom-printed materials – a simple letter is just fine.

of the band’s “agent” or key contact person.

Some frequently asked questions:

Can our band use previously submitted or published materials?

All bands MUST submit a recording, photo, and band description, BUT you can certainly use previous tapes, photos, and band descriptions if they accurately reflect your current band membership, performance level, and information.  We’d prefer a new set of materials though, since last year’s band applications/press kits may not be complete anymore.  Please call Penny Godlis (831-423-2154 home phone) or (408-234-7641 Cell Phone) if you have any questions. Are New Bands Welcome?

Definitely!  The band committee is always looking for new bands to feature at the festival.  The GOF was started mainly to give up-and-coming local bands a venue to perform for a larger bluegrass audience.

We’re an established local band and have played at GOF several times–do we still need to send in an application?

YES!  To be fair to everyone, all bands need to apply by the deadline to be considered by the festival committee. If all of the Band members are the same and you wish to use a previous year’s band packet, please call or e-mail Penny Godlis before the deadline.

Late Applications:

When we receive the Band packets we work very quickly to get a lineup for publication.  Bands that apply late may be put on a waiting list.

Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival Committee Will Meet Soon To Plan 2018 Event

The NCBS Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival Committee will be meeting soon to plan the August 9-12, 2018 festival at the San Benito County Historical Park in Tres Pinos.

All You Need To Know To Go To The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival This Weekend

THIS FESTIVAL IS OLD FASHIONED FUN: The Northern California Bluegrass Society’s Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival is fun, relaxed, and close-to home. This weekend’s Thursday-Sunday gathering features 25 great California bands on the main stage and many more bands on the ‘tweener stage.  The brand new Late Night Stage kicks off in the Dance Hall on Saturday night. Plus, the First Stage beginning at Noon on Friday will feature even more exciting bands in a intimate setting.

The GOF offers flushy restrooms, hot showers, shade in the audience area, a low-power broadcast of the stage to the camp, excellent sound, tent & RV camping,  children’s activities, a raffle, the NCBS election, food and craft vendors, nominations for the Northern California Bluegrass Awards, and easy handicapped access, along with plenty of fun jamming! The GOF is a benefit for the NCBS and helps the Society’s volunteers provide services to area bluegrass community all year long.

The San Benito County Historical Park is set in a beautiful valley of ranches and vineyards. The park has upgraded some facilities since of our first year and features a lovely historical village that is perfect for jamming.  Winter storms opened up gorgeous new views of the hills (more like Bolado Park) and have added a rocky beach along the creek!

The Historical Park at 8300 Airline Highway, Tres Pinos is next to Bolado Park, 7 miles south of Hollister.

TICKETS: There will be plenty of tickets at the gate.

Thursday Ticket $15.  Gates open at NOON on Thursday.

CAMPING: Camping is FREE with all multi-day tickets.  The water is the same as at Bolado Park, so bring water for drinking & cooking purposes. No RV hook-ups this year. If hook-ups are needed, they are available next door at Bolado Park, but a vehicle will be needed. Walking from Bolado Park to the Historical Park on the highway is not advised.

There are no stage performances on Thursday afternoon, which is reserved for jamming and socializing.

DIRECTIONS:

>From The Bay Area:

South on Highway 101 to just past Gilroy.
Exit right, then left over bridge on Highway 25 and go
southeast towards Hollister.
(Follow signs to Pinnacles National Park.)
Go through Hollister, then continue south on 25.

>From The Central Valley:

Exit I-5 at Highway 152 (Pacheco Pass) and go west
towards Gilroy.
Turn left on Highway 156 just past Casa de Fruta and go
south towards Hollister.
Go through Hollister, then continue south on Highway 25.

>From The Central Coast:

Take either Highway 101 (or Highway 1 to Highway 129 to 101)
north & east towards San Juan Batista.
Turn on Highway 156 near San Juan Batista and go east towards
Hollister.
Go through Hollister, then continue south on Highway 25.

FROM HOLLISTER:

Drive south on Highway 25, following signs to the Pinnacles and Bolado Park
The San Benito County Historical Park is 7 miles south of Hollister on Highway 25 (and 2 miles south of the town of Tres Pinos).
Turn right and go over the bridge into the park.

Gas stations, food stores, etc. are plentiful in Hollister and limited in Tres Pinos.

PETS: DOGS ARE ALLOWED, but must remain in the designated Dog Camping Area.

CAMP BROADCAST: KGOF will provide a low-power broadcast of the stage to the camp on your FM radio.
