Candidate Statements For 2019 NCBS Board Of Directors Election Due On June 30
The Annual Election for the Northern California Bluegrass Society Board Of Directors will be held at the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival at the San Benito County Historical Park in Tres Pinos on Saturday, August 10, 2019, 10:00am-5:00pm, and by mail.
Candidate Statements are due to Michael Hall by June 30, 2019, for publication in the July issue of Bluegrass By The Bay and on the NCBS Website. Statements are limited to 100 words.
Donate To The NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund For Fall 2019
Donate to the Northern California Bluegrass Society Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund for deserving students attending the Walker Creek Fall 2019 Music Camp near Petaluma, set for November 1-4.
NCBS is a Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) Organization that manages the scholarship fund and makes the awards. The camp is run each spring and fall by Ingrid Noyes at the Walker Creek Ranch.

NCBS President Michael Hall To Help Organize IBMA Leadership Bluegrass Retreat In Kentucky
Northern California Bluegrass Society President Michael Hall will help organize the International Bluegrass Music Association Leadership Bluegrass Alumni Retreat to be held at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY on April 15-17, 2019. Retreat attendees will discuss issues that currently face the bluegrass music world, as well as study bluegrass history and culture.
Interested NCBS Members are encouraged to apply for the Leadership Bluegrass Class held every March in Nashville. Class graduates are invited to the retreats, which are held in the spring of each odd-numbered year, in addition to other alumni events. Hall has been actively involved in visioning and running the retreats for the last 16 years. He is retiring from this role following this week’s event.
The NCBS is a longtime organizational member of the IBMA. Hall is a member of the Leadership Bluegrass Class of 2003.

NCBS President Michael Hall Named To IBMA Foundation Board Of Directors
Northern California Bluegrass Society President Michael Hall has been named to the IBMA Foundation Board Of Directors, the philanthropic organization affiliated with the International Bluegrass Music Association. The foundation was formerly known as The Foundation For Bluegrass Music.
Hall has been active with various IBMA projects for the the past three decades in addition to his local work for the NCBS.
The other members of the board are: Fred Bartenstein, Fred Bartenstein & Associates; Kissy Black, President, Lotos Nile Consultants; Sam Blumenthal, The Blumenthal Foundation; Richie Brown, Founder, Boston Bluegrass Union, Harvard University; Becky Buller, Becky Buller Band; Peter D’Addario, St. Louis Cardinals; Tom Kopp, Emeritus Professor, Miami University of Ohio; Ruth McLain, Morehead State University Bluegrass Program, McLain Family Band; Peter Salovey, President, Yale University & Bandleader, The Professors of Bluegrass; Alan Tompkins, President, Bluegrass Heritage Foundation; and Wendy Tyner, Wintergrass Festival.
2019 grants by the Foundation include an award to the California Bluegrass Association for its Japan project at Grass Valley in June (“Fostering Closer Ties with Japanese Pickers and Fans”) and to the San Diego Bluegrass Society for its “Summergrass Kids Camp” in August at Vista.
In past years, awards have included a grant to the Northern California Bluegrass Society for its “NCBS Walker Creek Music Camp Scholarship Fund” and a college scholarship that enabled Palo Alto’s Molly Tuttle to attend the Berkelee College of Music.
The foundation accepts IRC Section 501(c)(3) tax-advantaged donations to support worthy bluegrass projects nationwide.

NCBS Congratulates Kali Nowakowski And The Rest Of The IBMA Leadership Bluegrass Class Of 2019
Congratulations to Kali Nowakowski of Straight Up Strings By Siminoff, Atascadero, California and the rest of the International Bluegrass Music Association Leadership Bluegrass Class Of 2019. The Northern California Bluegrass Society is a longtime organizational member of the IBMA.
The 2019 class will meet next March in Nashville. NCBS Members are encouraged to consider applying for the 2020 class before the October 31, 2019 deadline. Applications will be available on the IBMA Website in September.
